emigrate、immigrate 与 migrate 这些动词均有“移居、迁移”之意。

emigrate : 指自本国移出，长期定居在外。

• Millions of Germans emigrated from Europe to America in the 19th century. 在 19 世纪，数百万的德国人从欧洲移民到了美国。 Thousands of Britons emigrate every year.
• 每年有数以千计的英国人移居国外。

immigrate : 指自他国移入，长期定居。

• He immigrated with his parents in 1895 and grew up on Long Island. 1895 年，他与父母一起移民，并在长岛长大。

migrate : 通常指大批人短期或定期的移居。指动物时，则指定期迁徙、回游。

• These animals migrate annually in search of food. 这些动物为寻找食物每年都迁徙。
• Mexican farm workers migrate into the US each year to find work at harvest time. 墨西哥农场工人每年收获季节到来时都大批涌入美国找工作。
